Pictorical Installations (2019-2021)

I’m grateful for my surname ARENY, as it allows me to engage in word-play when signing my work. Broken down into ARE and NY, I can say that the people I’ve painted ARE New Yorkers, which is synonymous with the avant-garde; but at the same time indicating its Catalanness, since “NY” is a phonetic representation that is  specifically Catalan.

This selection from a collection of some 40 paintings, named New Portraits or Troubadours, consists of portraits of artists, mostly poets, who Toni Areny has met in person or read. Oil portraits in which the installation format helps to capture the nuances of their personality. (ENG)

Estic agraït al meu cognom ARENY, ja que em permet allò que tant m’agrada, els joc de paraules. Descompost en ARE i NY, em permet expressar que aquells a qui he pintat SÓN  Novaiorquesos, sinònim d’avantguardistes; però indicant-ne alhora la seva catalanitat, doncs la “ NY ” és una representació fonètica pròpiament catalana.”(CAT)

Estoy agradecido a mi apellido ARENY, ya que me permite hacer lo que tanto me gusta, juegos de palabras. Desglosado en ARE y NY, puedo decir que los que he pintado SON neoyorquinos, sinónimo de vanguardistas; pero indicando también su catalanidad, pués la “NY” es una representación fonética propiamente catalana.
